Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Services, the HR Generalist is involved in several aspects relating to hiring, training and general HR function support. Their duties include but are not limited to overseeing the onboarding process of new employees, providing support within the HR team, and assisting employees with training, career and performance development.
Position Responsibilities
Recruitment and Retention:
- Create job postings based on organizational vacancies;
- Assist management in updating job descriptions and interview questions as required;
- Prepare Communication Requests and Ad briefs for the Communications department in a timely manner;
- Sync job postings to internal recruitment software daily;
- Shortlist candidates based on minimum requirements and make recommendations to hiring manager;
- Prepare for and schedule interviews, providing job descriptions, written as well as verbal instructions and other important information to candidates;
- Close job postings immediately following their prescribed deadline;
- Correspond with incumbents regarding job offer, start dates, certifications required. Should changes arise, communicate with the hiring manager immediately;
- Schedule onboarding and safety orientation for each incumbent;
- Manage the seasonal hiring process;
- Assist with HR duties for Paid On Call Firefighter recruitment process;
- Assist with the recruitment and hiring of Work Experience Program Firefighters;
- Manage termination-related matters and prepare termination and severance letters as required;
Performance Management and Development:
- Provide Performance Improvement Plan support and assistance to management;
- Initiate Performance and Development Review process for all upcoming annual reviews;
- Initiate Performance and Development Review process for all returning seasonal staff;
- Assist supervisors with the probationary review process as required;
- Assist supervisors with seasonal 30-day review process;
- Provide all staff with copies of their completed Performance and Development reviews in their Employee Documents, and place copies in their physical and electronic personnel files;
- Provide support in training and development requests;
General
- Prepare and provide HR Newsletter to all staff on a quarterly basis;
- Assist in the updating of internally used forms as required;
- Assist in Payroll functions as required; and
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualification, Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
- Degree in Human Resources, Human Services, Organizational Development, Psychology, Business Administration or related is required;
- Two (2) years experience in Human Resources considered an asset;
- Municipal or similar experience considered an asset;
- A strong understanding of best practice and current HR related regulations required;
- Excellent judgement and problem solving skills;
- Knowledge of conflict management;
- Strong decision making skills;
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal;
- Proficient in the use of MS Office software;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to all matters pertaining to Yellowhead County;
- Experience using Avanti software considered an asset;
- The incumbent must provide a Police Record Check;
- The incumbent must provide a clean Driver’s Abstract; and
- The incumbent must hold a Defensive Driving certificate completed within the last five (5) years.
Working Environment:
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals; and
- Ability to multitask and prioritize ever changing work duties as assigned.
The salary range is $64,649 to $80,164 per year. This is a 12-month term position, with possible extension.
