Posting Closes: May 4, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.                    Schedule: Shift work; 6-12 hours in duration

Working with the Fire Services department and reporting to the Manager, Emergency Communications Services, the casual Emergency Communications Operator will be responsible for receiving and evaluating all incoming telephone calls to determine the service required and ensure each caller is routed to the appropriate emergency service agency.  You will also provide services to those agencies under the dispatch arm of the call answer centre and monitor the progression of calls to ensure an efficient emergency response.  You must have the ability to apply logical judgment to emergency situations and obtain/record information accurately.  Strong interpersonal and organization skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision are required. 

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • Grade 12 diploma. 
  • Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) certification. 
  • Communications and/or emergency-related experience. 
  • Computer proficiency. 
  • Capacity to work efficiently for long periods of time. 
  • Knowledge of the County and surrounding area would be considered an asset. 
  • Emergency Communication Response certification would be considered an asset.  

Requirements:

  • Ability to work in-person at the West Central Fire Hall – 4820 52 Street, Wabamun, AB 
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract provided upon hire.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under the age of 18 and current Parkland County employees.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Salary & Benefits

A Starting Rate of: $35.09 per hour

Casual shift work schedules will include varying start and end times, weekends and shifts of 6-12 hours in duration; covering 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This position also provides sick/vacation coverage which may involve up to full-time hours at peak times of the year.
