The District of Saanich is the largest municipality on beautiful Vancouver Island, blending urban and rural environment and home to approximately 124,000 citizens. The District offices are located next to beautiful Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary and are accessible by rapid transit and via the Galloping Goose and Lochside Regional trails.

Are you interested in gaining experience in a dynamic community planning environment? If so, Saanich is seeking a Planning Analyst 1 to serve for up to 18 weeks this Spring / Summer. The position will perform entry-level professional work while providing technical assistance to staff and the public regarding community planning, housing and development programs. This will include assisting with public engagement processes, conducting research on specific topics or planning problems and preparing written summaries or recommendations for senior staff.

Requirements

Requirements include: 

  • Master’s degree in Planning or a related discipline. Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited planning program will be considered.
  • 3 months of experience in planning research, data analysis or public engagement.
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of BC.  
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, including cross-functional knowledge involving other disciplines, e.g. engineering, recreational design principles.
  • Proficiency in various software applications including: Adobe Creative Suites and Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint. 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal and facilitation skills are required. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • The anticipated term is from May 1 to August 31, 2025, but with flexibility with start and end dates.

Salary & Benefits
