The Water Resources Division of Saanich Engineering provides professional services for the management of the municipal sanitary sewer, potable water and storm drainage systems. We are recruiting for an Engineering Technician (level 4) to join our fast paced and diverse team. The ideal candidate is either an experienced technologist or an engineering-in-training. The successful candidate will work in the infrastructure design & construction section; a technical team that delivers the Division capital renewal program. The work of the Engineering Technician IV involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level including project scoping, preparing designs or managing designs prepared by consultants and delivering projects from the concept phase through to construction completion as the internal project manager; responding to public inquiries; providing technical support to internal construction crews; liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineering of Record regarding field design changes; and participating in intra or inter-departmental initiatives as representative for the team. The role works under the guidance of professional engineers in the team; is afforded an appropriate level of independence in completing work assignments and an extraordinary variation in work tasks that will expand your functional knowledge of municipal infrastructure management in local government setting. The successful candidate will possess a sound technical foundation, strong project management skills, is well organized, has strong communication skills and an appetite for learning.
Requirements include a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution; a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience; is eligible for registration as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC; possesses a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License; and can navigate computer-based engineering applications including Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
Those who may not specifically meet the full extent of the listed qualifications are encouraged to apply, as the District may consider the totality of education, experience and training as an equivalent. Alternate qualifications will also be considered, such as a University Degree in a related field of Engineering and minimum of 2 years of related work experience, and eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC as an Engineer-In-Training.
The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week) and will be eligible for participation in the District’s modified work week program (37.5 hours worked per week and every third Friday or Monday off).
