The Database Applications Specialist I provides technical expertise, systems analysis, and operational support for the County’s SAP ecosystem, specifically focusing on Workforce Software (WFS), SAP, and Fiori/UI5 applications. This role acts as a bridge between technical development and business operations, ensuring seamless day-to-day functionality of scheduling and ESS/MSS applications. The Specialist is responsible for troubleshooting, and collaborating with business users to maintain business continuity across corporate platforms.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)
- Act as the primary technical support for Workforce Software (WFS), providing daily operational support, configuration, and troubleshooting for complex scheduling and timekeeping functions.
- Deliver robust support for SAP UI5/Fiori applications, specifically focusing on the deployment and maintenance of ESS/MSS tools (e.g., leave requests, and manager approvals).
- Ensure the integrity of automated scheduling systems and their integration points with SAP, monitoring data synchronization and resolving interface errors.
- Provide strong day-to-day operational support, serving as a quick-response troubleshooter for system failures, processing errors, and performance bottlenecks.
- Liaise with vendors and external support partners (WFS and SAP) regarding software bugs, patches, and version upgrades, ensuring timely resolution of high-priority tickets.
- Provide programming expertise for SAP development and web-based technologies (JavaScript, XML, OData services, and SQL).
- Design and implement application security, including Fiori tile catalogs, groups, and role-based access to ensure appropriate user permissions for ESS/MSS.
- Undertake systems analysis for new business requirements, including client consultation and process modeling for scheduling and labor management workflows.
- Conduct and monitor pilot testing for system updates and enhancements to ensure functional compliance and user satisfaction.
- Ensure the integrity of various environments (Dev, QA, Prod) by managing transport requests and following strict change management procedures.
- Design application logic, including workflow automation for ESS/MSS approval processes and data mapping between ERP and third-party tools.
- Provide high-quality end-user support by preparing technical documentation, training materials for WFS/Fiori users, and ongoing desk-side assistance.
- Prepare reports and presentations regarding system performance and project status as required.
- Participate in committees and project teams as a technical subject matter expert.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including redeployment in emergency situations.
- Comply with Provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and policies.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
- Education: Three-year College diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology. Educational equivalency may be considered in accordance with County Policy.
- Expert knowledge of Workforce Software (WFS) and automated scheduling logic is an asset.
- SAP Skills: Proficiency in SAP BASIS, UI5/Fiori, including ESS/MSS support, and web technologies (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, XML).
- Technical Aptitude: A quick learner with a strong "problem-solving" mindset to diagnose and resolve complex system errors under pressure.
- Database Skills: Knowledge of MS-SQL, including queries and stored procedures.
- Communication: Ability to translate complex WFS/SAP technical language into layperson terms for training and end-user support.
- Operational Focus: Demonstrated ability to manage day-to-day support tickets while simultaneously working on long-term project tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Criminal records check that is less than 6 months old at time of hire.
EXPERIENCE
- Four (4) years of experience in Information Technology, with a knowledge on Workforce Software (WFS), automated scheduling platforms, and SAP/Fiori support. Experience in a large corporate setting with integrated ERP systems is an asset.
