The Parks Division is seeking a dynamic permanent full-time Park Planner / Designer to step into a valued role following a team member’s retirement. Reporting to the Manager of Park Planning & Development, you will collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to lead a variety of park planning and design initiatives--conducting research, managing procurement processes and contracts, contributing to hands-on to landscape design and development of new parks and renewals, including playgrounds, sports fields, trails, drainage/stormwater elements.  You will also deliver meaningful public engagement processes and play a pivotal role in shaping park policies.

Requirements

Qualified candidates have a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, engineering, architecture, or similar related discipline; four years of directly related park experience in park planning and design; eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planning, and/or the BC Society of Landscape Architects; training and/or related experience in the use of AutoCAD programs, computer graphics, Microsoft Office and presentation software; a valid Class 5 Driver’s licence; and possession of a private automobile available for work-related use as and when required. Experience with Asset Management software, Adobe Design Suite, IAPP accreditation, and PMP all considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

In addition, qualified candidates will have excellent communication, research, writing, presentation, project management, public engagement, and diplomacy skills as well as proven knowledge of park planning and design.

The successful applicant will work Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (7 hours per day - 35 hours per week) with the possibility of a modified work schedule. Occasional work from home is available depending on work assignments. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted. Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $49.41 per hour (2024 rate) with an excellent benefits package and a generous pension plan.
