Description
In this position, you will be part of a team dedicated to enhancing the parks in Prince George. It is essential to have the ability to assign and oversee the work of several employees engaged in routine park tasks. Your daily responsibilities will include turf construction and maintenance, which involves new landscaping, turf repair, minor irrigation repairs, over-seeding, fertilizing, sweeping, and mowing. This role requires physical labor, equipment operation, routine inspections, record-keeping, and report writing. You will also need to operate small, motorized equipment, such as a skid steer loader, and you will be working outdoors in all weather conditions. Please be aware that you may encounter unpleasant waste materials and other biohazards while performing your duties. Summer seasonal positions are subject to layoffs, typically occurring in October, with a possibility of being recalled annually.

Requirements

Ideally you have at least four years of experience in a relevant field, specifically in turf construction and repair, general construction, and carpentry repairs. Additionally, you should be knowledgeable about horticultural and arboricultural principles related to gardening, landscaping, and park maintenance. Experience operating equipment, particularly a skid steer, is also required, along with some prior supervisory experience. Ideally, you will possess a Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license (or an equivalent from another province) is required. The successful applicant must also be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offenses related to the position, as well as the completion of one course in a subject related to the trade from an accredited post-secondary institution within one year of hire.
