The Recreation Division is seeking experienced Instructor III and Aquatic Instructor III staff to support advanced aquatic instruction at Gordon Head Recreation Centre and Saanich Commonwealth Place. These roles support the delivery of Lifesaving Society and Canadian Red Cross certification programs, helping participants develop knowledge, leadership skills, and employment qualifications.
Under the general direction of a Recreation Programmer or Program Technician, the Aquatic Instructor III plans and delivers instruction for lifesaving programs. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, instructing and evaluating participants according to recognized agency standards, maintaining records and reports, and ensuring participant safety and program quality.
The Instructor III provides direct instruction and leadership for Lifeguarding, First Aid, & leadership or instructional programs. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, instructing and evaluating participants according to recognized agency standards, maintaining records and reports, and ensuring participant safety and program quality.
Both positions require strong instructional skills, the ability to work collaboratively with staff and participants, and a commitment to creating a safe, welcoming learning environment.
Requirements for Aquatic Instructor III include completion of Grade 12, current aquatic instructional certifications recognized by aquatic agencies offering advanced aquatic, first aid, and CPR awards, and at least six months of teaching experience.
Requirements for Instructor III include completion of Grade 10, a minimum of three months of experience in the area of instruction, and certification or training relevant to the instructional program area. Emergency First Aid and CPR-C may be required depending on program delivery.
Employment for both roles is subject to the provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) dated within the last six months. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Successful candidates will be required to work Tuesday to Saturday 8:30 to 4:30 (varying shifts including weekends and evenings up to 30 hours per week). Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with wages of $27.53 per hour for Aquatic Instructor III and $29.51 per hour for Instructor III, plus 15% in lieu of benefits.
