About the Role

Vacancy Status: This posting is for a newly created position.

Reporting to the Manager, Park Design & Development, the Landscape Architect will be responsible for delivering park and trail capital projects with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. The candidate will also be responsible for working collaboratively to undertake technical reviews of planning applications and development proposals from a landscape architecture and urban design perspective. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the detail design, estimating, tender preparation, construction inspection and contract administration associated with park and trail development and redevelopment projects.
  • Overseeing projects including the development and monitoring of projects schedules in the design and construction phases.
  • Reviewing invoices and construction progress and recommend payment. 
  • Providing guidance and oversight to multi-disciplinary external consultants in all phases of park and trail development and redevelopment projects.
  • Liaising with Parks Operations, Planning, and Engineering for site plan approvals, permits, and site servicing.
  • Representing the Municipality on Parks Committees, participating in studies and preparing reports on related matters.
  • Responsible for the technical review and comments, conditions and clauses related to parks/open space and urban design, as part of the processing of development applications. 
  • Applying urban design principles and design guidelines in the evaluation of specific design studies and development projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the Parks capital budget.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, including those specific to the department.
Requirements

What you bring

  • A University Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Landscape Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Full membership with certificate and seal from the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA).
  • Three (3) years of related experience in landscape architecture in a -municipal setting or consultant/design setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and expertise in creating and applying urban design principles and design guidelines in the evaluation of specific design studies and development projects.
  • Familiarity with the land development process in Ontario including working knowledge of the Planning Act, Municipal Act, Development Charges Act etc.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, and able to deal effectively with the public.
  • High level proficiency using AutoCAD.
  • Experience playing a lead role in multi-phased projects related to parks construction.
  • Experience in preparing designs, specifications, reports, tenders, requests for proposals.
  • Working knowledge of landscape planning processes and policies including Municipal Act, Zoning By-laws, AODA.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Working knowledge of the development review process will be considered an asset.
  • Project management courses, certificate and/or experience is considered an asset.
  • Canadian Certified Playground Inspector certification considered an asset.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

What we offer

  • Salary: $95,557 to $116,150 - Grade 6 of the 2026 Non-Affiliated Salary Administration Program.

  • This position is currently eligible for a flexible work arrangement option. Further details on this program will be discussed through the selection process.
  • Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Additional Information

A satisfactory criminal record check and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.
