The Pointe Agricultural Event Centre is Strathcona County's premier agricultural facility designed to host equine, cattle, agriculture and community events. While this facility was primarily designed to accommodate agricultural events (horse/cattle/dog shows, etc.), it can also host all types of events (trade shows, markets, concerts, etc).
The Labourer will provide exceptional services to guests while ensuring the facility runs smoothly and efficiently. The Pointe Labourer will perform manual tasks while setting up and tearing down events, maintaining biosecurity standards, and keeping the venue spotless and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
- General labour, barn cleaning and sanitizing
- Assemble, arrange, and dismantle event equipment such as tables, chairs, tents, stages, signage, and barricades according to event layout plans and timelines.
- Perform manual tasks including use of hand power tools and equipment (shovels, rakes, blowers, etc.)
- Shoveling used shavings and manure out of horse stalls after shows
- Manually lifting and setting up or taking down horse stalls and other rail infrastructure throughout the facility
- Operating a floor cleaner or pressure washing
- Provide support to event hosts as required
- Interact and build relationships with guests and other staff through friendly and courteous interactions
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a hazard-free work environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and support the safe execution of public events
Qualifications and Skills:
- Equine, cattle or agricultural experience is considered an asset
- Ability to safely navigate equipment in tight spaces
- Excellent customer service skill and problem-solving ability
- CSA approved steel toed boots
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs
- Positive attitude and enjoy working in a team environment
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work with exposure to large animals (horse, cattle, etc)
- Ability to work daytime, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays
- Additional opportunity to be part of a pool of casual staff who can be called on to pick up additional shifts doing manual labour. This pool has no guaranteed hours or set schedule. Available shifts will be communicated with lots of notice.
Pay Range: $23.33 - $25.72
