Community Services, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Instructor III to deliver a Newcomer Older Adult Stand & Chair Fitness program in our community. This role supports inclusive recreation opportunities for older adults where English is a second language, by providing accessible, low-impact fitness classes designed to improve strength, balance, mobility, and overall well-being, in a welcoming and supportive environment.

As an Instructor III, you will be responsible for planning and leading safe, effective, and engaging stand and chair–based fitness classes tailored to the needs and abilities of older adult participants. Duties include preparing class outlines, setting up and maintaining equipment, welcoming participants, providing clear and supportive instruction, adapting movements as needed, tracking attendance, and ensuring a safe and inclusive program environment. The role requires sensitivity to cultural diversity, varying fitness levels, and mobility considerations, as well as strong communication and customer service skills.

Requirements

Requirements include completion of Grade 10; a minimum of three months’ experience instructing fitness or movement-based programs, preferably with older adults; and certification or training in the area of instruction in accordance with industry standards (such as BCRPA, CanFitPro, CSEP, or equivalent). Emergency First Aid and CPR-C are required, along with a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) dated within the last six months. The ability to adapt instruction for participants with differing abilities and backgrounds is essential. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Successful candidates will be required to work One day per week, time 11:30am-12:30pm. (hours/shifts are subject to change depending on operational requirements). Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $29.51 per hour plus 15% ($4.42) in lieu of benefits.
