The Finance Department, Revenue Services Division, is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Tax Clerk to provide clerical and front-line support during peak taxation periods. This temporary full-time opportunity supports the delivery of efficient and accurate property tax services to the public.
As a Tax Clerk, you will perform routine clerical and keyboarding duties in a fast-paced office environment with frequent public contact. Responsibilities include responding to inquiries from the public, legal firms, and lending institutions; routing visitors and calls; providing basic information related to property taxation; and obtaining missing or incomplete information related to property tax payments, homeowner grants, deferments, and medical certificates. The role also involves preparing batches of tax payments for data entry, performing simple arithmetic calculations to compute penalties or interest, completing and processing internal forms, and sorting, filing, and maintaining routine office records.
Requirements include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; a minimum of six months of office experience; experience dealing with the public; the ability to perform simple arithmetic computations and tabulations; and a minimum keyboarding speed of 40 words per minute. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a busy office environment and providing courteous, accurate service to the public.
The successful candidates will work Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The anticipated duration of this position is mid-May to mid-July.
