The base position is as Maintenance Waste Collector, and the successful applicant will also work in a variety of similar positions based on daily needs. The position includes Maintenance Waste Collector (base position), Leaf Truck Operator, Refuse Truck Operator, Street Sweeper and Compost Attendant. The successful applicant will possess the requirements to work in all these positions.
The responsibilities for Maintenance Waste Collector include collection of refuse and litter from litterbins, roadsides, and other locations using small dual steer semi-automated collection equipment, pickup trucks and other similar equipment as required. Duties will involve driving assigned refuse collection equipment and working outside in all types of weather.
Requirements include: a grade 12 education; valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement; one year experience in a related field; experience dealing with the public; sufficient dexterity and co-ordination to safely and effectively operate all collection equipment including right hand drive trucks equipped with an automated arm operated by joystick style controls; and all other qualifications as defined in the job descriptions.
Hours of work will be Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).
This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a base wage of $33.51/hour (2024 rate) as Maintenance Waste Collector plus an excellent benefits package. Other wages include: $37.07/hr (2024 rate) as Leaf Truck Operator, Refuse Truck Operator, or Street Sweeper; and $32.06/hr (2024 rate) as Compost Attendant.
