The Recreation Division at G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre provides a wide range of inclusive and accessible programs that promote skill development, active living, and community connection. G.R. Pearkes is a busy, multi-use facility that serves participants of all ages and abilities and plays a key role in delivering high-quality skating programs to the community.
The Instructor I – Skating is responsible for providing safe, engaging, and well-organized skating instruction to program participants. Under the general direction of a Recreation Programmer or Program Technician, this role includes preparing lesson plans, setting up and maintaining equipment, ensuring adherence to facility rules, supervising participants, and delivering positive and enthusiastic instruction. Instructors are expected to maintain a safe and welcoming environment while providing excellent customer service.
Requirements include completion of Grade 10, a minimum of three months’ experience in a related area of instruction, and Emergency First Aid with CPR-C. Employment is subject to the provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance (PIC-VS), no older than six months. Strong communication skills, the ability to instruct in a safe and organized manner, and a customer-focused approach are essential.
The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including daytime, after school, evenings, and weekends; hours and schedules are subject to change based on program needs.
