Description
The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Zero Waste Coordinator. Under the direction of the Manager, Sanitation, Recycling & Cemeteries, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning, development, design, education, delivery, administration, and coordination of waste reduction policies and programs that will push the City’s residual waste rate closer to zero.

The Zero Waste Coordinator will utilize a variety of primary data sources in conjunction with Federal and Provincial Environmental guidelines, the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Solid Waste Management Plan and the latest best practice to bring about productive changes and tackle barriers to zero waste in the community.

Requirements

Applicants must have a diploma in Environmental Science or related discipline from a recognized educational institution, supplemented with a minimum of one year of experience with environmental program development, public outreach and consultation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.

Salary & Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week, and subject to Article 1(d) - Probationary Period as set out in the Union Collective Agreement.  The hourly wage is $38.06, increasing to $40.06 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rates). The wage level for this position is subject to confirmation under a union/management jointly negotiated job evaluation plan.
