About the Role 

Our Finance division has a few exciting summer positions available to assist the Revenue and Taxation department to provide tax, utility accounts and property related information. 
 

As a Cashier-Clerk, you will perform cashier and clerical work involving receiving, recording, balancing and processing receipts for a variety of payments such as taxes, utilities, bylaw tickets, dog licences, fees, and related charges on accounts. You will respond to inquiries from the public (either in person or over the phone) which include tax and utility accounts, provincial tax assistance programs such as Home Owner Grants and Tax Deferments, and bylaw notices including ticket disputes. You will have ability to perform cashiering duties and maintain a high degree of accuracy in all tasks with minimal supervision.
 

As a Clerk 2, you will perform routine clerical assignments, provide information and assistance to the public on a variety of matters, deal with enquiries related to departmental operations, maintain records and files and perform high volumes of data processing. You will respond to inquiries from the public (either in person or over the phone) which include tax and utility accounts, provincial tax assistance programs such as Home Owner Grants and Tax Deferments, and bylaw notices including ticket disputes.
 

The successful candidates will have:  

  • A good knowledge of computer systems, record keeping, filing, public contact and related functions and of the applicable departmental practices, rules and regulations.
  • The ability to make decisions in accordance with the appropriate rules, policies and regulations, and to perform clerical tasks of high volume and some complexity under periodic work pressure.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and maintain effective working relationships with other staff.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and related software applications such as Excel, Word and Outlook.
Requirements

Qualifications 

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related commercial courses, plus sound related clerical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. In addition, to be considered for the Cashier position you will also have related experience in a financial institution or any business. 

Salary & Benefits

Details 

Salary: The salary for the unionized Clerk 2 position starts at $27.30 per hour (2024 rates) and the unionized Cashier position starts at $29.48 per hour (2024 rates), plus 12% in lieu of benefits.

Hours of Work: 35-hour work week
