Are you passionate about precision, confidentiality, and supporting employees through accurate and timely payroll and benefits services? We're looking for a detail-oriented Payroll and Benefits Technician to join our team. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring employees are paid correctly and benefit programs are administered smoothly, all while maintaining compliance with policies, collective agreements, and government regulations.
This position is primarily responsible for performing a variety of technical duties of a complex nature related to Payroll and Benefits administration. The primary responsibilities are the day-to-day operations of payroll systems to prepare City employees' bi-weekly payroll, pension and benefit administrative tasks and annual pension reporting.
Your key responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with collective agreements, policies, and regulations.
- Audit payroll entries, deductions, and net pay within the ERP system.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding earnings, deductions, and benefits with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Prepare Records of Employment and government reports as required.
- Administer bi-weekly pay slips, pension and benefit remittances, and employee reimbursements.
- Support and manage employee leaves, including benefit calculations and collections.
- Maintain secure and accurate payroll records and troubleshoot ERP system issues in collaboration with IT.
- Administer pension and benefit programs, including LAPP/SFPP enrollments, terminations, and remittances.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare year-end reports including T4s and pension adjustments.
What you bring
- Strong knowledge of payroll, accounting principles, and CRA regulations.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Office skills.

- Strong problem-solving skills and initiative in improving processes.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a diploma in business administration, management, accounting, or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Current designation as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner as issued by the Canadian Payroll Association.
- Five (5) years of payroll and benefits administration related experience.
- A management approved equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
