JOB SUMMARY
Please note that successful candidates with a Refrigeration B license will be paid at OU Grade 5B while candidates with Advanced Refrigeration certification will be paid at OU Grade 5.
Reporting to the Supervisor/Coordinator of Facility Operations, this position is responsible for facility operations maintenance and repair work related to arenas, community centers/halls, pools, change rooms (and cleaning of same) and any other assigned areas. This position oversees the facility to ensure programs/events run as scheduled and is responsible for the security and safety of the facility and its patrons.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures that the facility is opened and closed at the scheduled times
- Notifies Facility Supervisor or Facility Coordinator regarding any staff or facility related issues
- Operates ice re-surfacer (Zamboni, etc.) and/or other specialized equipment (edger, scissor lift, swing machines, ride on scruber, etc.) and/or pool equipment (vacuums, etc.)
- Performs general cleaning/maintenance (i.e. mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, washroom/ dressing room cleaning, snow shovelling, garbage pick up, detail cleaning, set-ups and breakdowns of tables and chairs)
- Operates power tools, and cleaning and safety equipment
- Responds to requests from patrons (general public) and other City of Markham staff on a general facility issues and/or maintenance requests
- Patrols the building looking for facility problems, safety hazards, or improper departmental operations
- Is responsible for the security of the building
- Ensures that all policies and procedures are being followed by patrons and PT maintenance staff as applicable
- Delegates and assigns job duties to part-time facility maintenance staff and follows-up, as required
- Adheres to corporate initiatives (i.e. recycling, energy management)
- Utilizes computer systems (i.e. CLASS, Outlook, etc.)
- Operates and monitors facility operation systems and records readings
- Assists in the required daily facility and equipment maintenance (i.e. painting, blade changes, etc.) with minimal supervision
- Purchases supplies following department guidelines and submits expenses reports. Completes purchase orders as required
- Ensures facility scheduling is ‘executed’ in a prompt and timely manner
- Assists with hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of part-time staff
- Assists with the training of full-time staff
- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Refrigeration B License preferred or Advanced Refrigeration certification required.
- Pool Operator Certificate
- Five years experience in recreation facility operations and maintenance
- Experience with associated materials, equipment operations, and maintenance procedures associated with a recreation facility environment including pool, arena, building automation systems, etc.
- Ability to complete basic plumbing, electrical, IRU's and carpentry
- Certified Ice Technician/Certified Aquatic Technician an asset
- Current certification in Standard First Aid with CPR, propane handling required
- Must be physically able to perform the bona fide requirements of the job. This position involves occasional heavy lifting
- Valid Ontario Drivers License an asset.

Salary Range:$35.25 To $37.50 Hourly
