 About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Distribution & Collection, the Heavy Duty Mechanic will be responsible for performing and organizing the preventative maintenance and repairs to the Aquatera fleet in compliance with national commercial vehicle standards and to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks, hydrovac units, flusher units and backhoes. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair and test light trucks, heavy trucks, trailers, other vehicles, and equipment, in the shop and on-site as needed
  • Replace worn or damaged parts as needed 
  • Perform general repairs as necessary
  • Perform electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting
  • Investigate sources for, and obtain quotes for major repairs 
  • Review equipment repair invoices
  • Repair and maintain cooling and lubrication systems
  • Repair working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, etc.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance
  • Perform preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment including cleaning and lubrication 
  • Maintain fleet maintenance records  
  • Maintain inventory of equipment lubricants, fluids, and consumable items
  • Ordering and maintaining materials for the Distribution & Collection shop
  • Oversee all paperwork for commercial, fleet inspections, work orders and repairs
  • Review vendor quotes and invoices
  • Schedule is Monday-Friday; shift to be determined
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Will possess a Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Red Seal
  • Will possess a minimum Class 3 Drivers license with Q (air brake) endorsement, an asset
  • Have more than 10 years as a journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Have an aptitude for computers/computer programs and CMMS
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Be committed to safety
  • Be able to work independently and complete all assigned jobs
  • Have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions including via electronic sources
  • Be able to adjust to operating conditions
  • Be a team player
  • Be able to work alone or with others
  • Follow safety practices and procedures related to work being completed

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Q(air brake) endorsement within 6 months of hire date
  • Satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Pass 50 lb. fitness test
  • Pass comprehensive drug and alcohol test
