The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time GIS Technologist. Reporting to the Supervisor, Geographic Information Systems, the GIS Technologist performs a wide variety of duties to support the operation, maintenance, and development of the City of Nanaimo Geographic Information System (GIS). The work consists of creating and maintaining spatial and related tabular data, performing spatial analysis, publishing electronic and hardcopy format maps, authoring reports, or the creation of other electronic or hardcopy format visual and tabular information products that reference the GIS. In this capacity, the incumbent provides records management and decision support services to numerous departments across the organization.

Requirements

Applicants must have a university degree in Geographic Information Systems or a related field from a recognized educational institution, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience with the application of GIS technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.

Salary & Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 35-hour work week. The hourly wage is $45.56, increasing to $47.96 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rates). It is anticipated that this vacancy will be up to 10 months in duration.
