Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Services, the Building Maintenance Worker performs or coordinates the execution of diverse maintenance and scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and tasks to effectively monitor and maintain all municipal buildings and related system components and devices including but not limited to access/security, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and heating/ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC).
The incumbent will often work independently in locations remote from the Manager and is the primary contact to respond to and resolve a variety of inquiries/requests from building occupants and the general public relating to specific building and Town-owned assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee repair and maintenance projects for municipally owned buildings, ensuring timely completion, quality workmanship, and adherence to safety regulations and applicable legislation
- Inspect facilities and implement preventative maintenance plans, including scheduling, prioritizing work, and maintaining detailed records
- Prepare project estimates and maintenance budgets, obtain contractor quotes, and provide recommendations on spending
- Supervise, and manage contractors, suppliers, and trades, as required
- Ensure work aligns with project scope, meets quality standards, and is properly documented
- Perform general and finishing maintenance work, including carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, drywall, painting, shelving, and furniture assembly
- Document all maintenance activities using maintenance software and support other related facility tasks as required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Journeyperson certification in a building trade is an asset; however, is a requirement in order to be compensated at the “Certified” classification wage rate
- Minimum of 3 years recent and directly related building operations systems experience, including HVAC, boilers, electrical, mechanical control systems, security systems, and other related building finish maintenance.
- A valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s Licence
- A valid First Aid/CPR Certification is an asset.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge and ability to perform various minor repairs on facilities
- Good understanding of preventative maintenance and operation of various facilities
- Understanding of relevant policies, procedures and provincial safety codes.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, internal and external customers and building tenants.
- The successful candidate is required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract consent form prior to commencement of employment.
Compensation/Hours of Work: This position is included within the scope of the Town’s unionized setting (CUPE 2426) with a probationary wage rate starting at $30.47 per hour (non-certified) or $40.03 per hour (certified), applied in accordance with the Collective Agreement and is based on a 20-hour work week.
