The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs.

You’ll work within a team where service excellence, learning and knowledge sharing, and feedback and accountability are highly valued, and where communication, trust, respect, and positivity form the foundation for everything we do.

The Recreation Division is seeking experienced instructors to plan and lead Foundations for Sport programs for preschool-aged children. Instructors must be available for training in early September, with programs beginning in mid-September and continuing throughout the school year. Each instructor will work with a partner to deliver programs at multiple sites across Saanich.

Instructor IIs are responsible for planning and supervising Foundations for Sport programs, including both parent-and-tot and preschool-age lessons. Responsibilities also include ensuring the safety and well-being of participants, as well as communicating and working cooperatively with participants, parents, co-workers, coordinators, and supervisors.

Requirements

Requirements include completion of Grade 10; three months experience teaching  camps, classes or programs in a recreational or instructional setting; satisfactory police information check, Emergency First-Aid and CPR-C. The ideal candidates will have the ability to be inclusive and flexible to ensure a positive environment is created for all participants; demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain a high degree of enthusiasm and personal motivation.  Experience working with people with behavioral or cognitive difficulties is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and expertise may be considered.

Successful candidates will be required to work varying shifts starting in mid-September, including:

  • Thursdays from 4:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Royal Oak Middle School
  • Saturdays from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Gordon Head Middle School
  • Sundays from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Pearkes Recreation Centre, and from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Braefoot Park Centre

Candidates are not required to work all these shifts, but should be available for at least one to two of the times listed above.

Salary & Benefits
