The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs.

Saanich Commonwealth Place Recreation Centre is seeking certified Advanced Aquatics Instructors to deliver our lifesaving, first aid, lifeguard, and instructor training programs.

Instructor IIIs are responsible for the instruction of first aid, National Lifeguard, and instructor development courses. Aquatic Instructor IIIs are responsible for the instruction of lifesaving courses. Instructor IIIs and Aquatic Instructor IIIs provide direct instruction, leadership and program management as well as preparing course outlines and class content. These positions keep accurate attendance records and reports and maintain safe and clean work environments. Instructor IIIs and Aquatic Instructor IIIs ensure participants are taught according to safety and skill standards outlined by Saanich and certifying agencies.

Requirements

Instructor III requirements include completion of Grade 10; any one of the following current awards: First Aid Instructor (Lifesaving Society or Canadian Red Cross), National Lifeguard Instructor, or a Lifesaving Society Trainer award in any stream; three months experience; and a satisfactory police information check with vulnerable sector check no older than 6 months.

Successful candidates will be required to work varying shifts including daytime, evenings, and weekends (hours/shifts are subject to change). As a component of this competition testing will be conducted. Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $29.51 per hour plus 15% ($4.42) in lieu of benefits.
