Our Facilities Department is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Planner to join the team for a two (2) year term to provide technical, administrative, inspectional and supervisory work involving maintenance planning, asset management support and contract monitoring for all municipal buildings and building systems, excluding recreational properties. You will develop preventative maintenance and inspection plans based on maintenance standards, ensuring regulatory compliance. This role will coordinate and oversee building maintenance activities; plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates engaged in coordinating and implementing routine building maintenance; administer contracts for building maintenance and repair services; plan and coordinate the development and delivery of maintenance projects; prepare facility maintenance budgets and control expenditures; maintain asset management and CMMS database system. You will exercise considerable independent judgement and action in the work.

Requirements

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and methods applicable to the maintenance of buildings and building systems, along with thorough knowledge of building codes, regulations, standards, legislation and policies and administrative processes governing the work.
  • Considerable knowledge of construction methods and materials and their costs as applied to facility maintenance and construction for commercial building improvements; along with principles of contract administration as it relates to the work; and departmental policies and procedures applicable to the work.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Asset Management software. Ability to develop and populate database system to assist in creation of preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Ability to develop maintenance standards and preventative maintenance methods for building components, including components with high-risk potential, in accordance with regulatory and municipal standards; along with maintenance plans and service schedules for inspection, maintenance and repair, and to recommend priorities and delivery models.
  • Ability to coordinate maintenance and repair projects, developing scope of work, estimating costs, preparing schedules, and monitoring and administering contract performance.
  • Ability to prepare the draft maintenance budget for municipal buildings and equipment, and to monitor and control related expenditures.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Ability to inspect municipal buildings and building systems to assess and determine required maintenance and repairs.
  • Working knowledge of Commercial HVAC systems including DDC.  Specific expertise and experience with Reliable Controls an asset.
  • Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates; and establish and maintain effective working relationships and liaison with various internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to the work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Diploma in Building Systems Technology or a related field, plus considerable related building maintenance and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An Interprovincial Trade TQ with Red Seal Endorsement would be considered an asset. A valid BC Driver’s Licence is required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $44.22 to $52.21 per hour (2024 rates)

Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
