The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced engineering technologist to join our Engineering Department. The Senior Development Engineering Technologist will perform technical work at a semi-professional level as part of a technical team that delivers new municipal infrastructure through development construction and acts as the caretaker for existing infrastructure.
In accordance with the engineering bylaws and municipal policies, the Senior Development Engineering Technologist will set the servicing requirements and develop conceptual drawings to aide in the creation of same, for new developments in the District of Saanich. They will meet with owners, developers, and consultants, while working with other municipal departments such as Parks and Planning, to guide developments from the pre-application phase to construction. Working closely with the Engineering Department’s Transportation, Water Resources, and Public Works Divisions, they will ensure that the proper infrastructure is in place to support development. They will also be part of a team working to modernize and streamline the development review process, providing feedback as required, with the goal of accelerating the delivery of housing in Saanich.
The successful candidate will be familiar with relevant bylaws and policies, municipal engineering specifications and the MMCD, as well as the relevant sections of the Local Government Act. They are technically proficient in municipal engineering, will possess strong project management skills, and is a great customer service focused communicator.
Requirements include a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; Registered as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; Six years of progressive, directly related municipal engineering and development process experience in a local government environment; Knowledge of current relevant civil engineering principles and practices; Competent in reading, interpreting and analysing engineering drawings, specifications, contracts and plans; Knowledge of provincial legislation, municipal bylaws and policies and how they relate to subdivision and development; Conversant with computer based engineering applications including AutoCAD Civil 3D, BlueBeam Revu, and Microsoft Office products; Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence; PMP Certification would be an asset; An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (7 hours per day, 35 hours per week). This position is eligible for a modified work week offering flex days after the completion of a 12-month probationary period. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.
