The Transportation and Development Services Division is dedicated to advancing active transportation and transportation asset management within the municipal rights-of-way. Joining our team as an Engineering Technician II under the direction of senior technicians or managers, you will support sustainable transportation initiatives. With the support of experienced staff, you will manage impactful municipal infrastructure projects from inception to completion, gaining insights into broad-scale project execution and community impact. Your technical expertise will be crucial in:
- Project Management: Manage all aspects of smaller-scale municipal infrastructure projects, such as bus stops and crosswalk improvements. Create project charters, develop concept and detailed designs, coordinate with stakeholders, conduct quantity takeoffs, oversee construction, and complete project closeout.
- Active Transportation Design: Engage in the innovative design of active transportation networks that promote sustainable modes such as walking, cycling, and public transit. Work with AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop solutions that align with contemporary road and active transportation design guidelines.
- Advanced Technical Skills: Through peer mentorship, you will leverage your knowledge in transportation design modelling and AutoCAD Civil 3D, including the use of subassemblies and corridors in the development of innovative transportation designs.
- Technical Review: Review and provide critical analysis of design proposals and constructed works, ensuring adherence to municipal specifications and design guidelines.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a point of contact for public inquiries, conveying technical information related to active transportation in clear and accessible language.
- Asset Management: Assist in the strategic planning and management of municipal-owned and third-party transportation infrastructure by evaluating asset conditions, participating in asset renewal and modernization, and supporting integrated infrastructure strategies.
Preferred qualifications: an understanding of active transportation design principles and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D transportation design modelling will be prioritized. This role is central to fostering innovative transportation solutions that support local sustainable mobility goals.
Requirements include: a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; three months of related experience; eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologies and Technicians of BC; conversant with computer-based engineering applications including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week), with some variation of work hours and flex days available.
