JOB SUMMARY
The successful candidate will plan, organize, instruct and lead cooking classes for adult's learning. Cooking classes will entail instruction in gourmet cooking, showcasing a variety of techniques and diverse cuisines.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitating. leading and supervising adult learning classes in cooking;
- Developing, organizing and writing lesson plans;
- Preparing, organizing and maintaining inventory of any necessary program equipment and/or supplies;
- Ensuring safety procedures are followed at all times by class participants;
- Keeping attendance records and checking with participants who have extended absences.
Successful candidates will be required to submit a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening letter as determined by the City of Markham as a condition of employment.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- High school diploma required
- Post-secondary education is preferred
- Minimum age of 16 years old at the start of employment
- Culinary training from a recognized institution
- Certified Food Handling Certificate
- Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in instructing individuals of all ages and ability levels in cooking, as well as 5 or more years of experience learning and developing techniques/expertise in cooking
- Ability to teach cooking at a basic level (not competition level)
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends.
- Good verbal/written communication skills, leadership skills, customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
