The District of Saanich has been a climate action leader for many years. In 2019 the District declared a climate emergency, shortly followed by the approval of an ambitious and award-winning Climate Plan. The Sustainability Division leads this work and we have spent the last five years actively and collaboratively implementing the Plan and monitoring progress. We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Temporary, full-time Senior Sustainability Planner.  This is a back-fill for a temporary internal staff position change.

Requirements

This position will support the Sustainability Project Manager (Community) and Senior Sustainability Planner (Zero Waste) over the next year, leading and/or supporting key projects, policies and programs.  Depending upon the experience of the successful candidate this could include management of existing building retrofit programs; development of programs or policy that improve access to cooling in existing buildings; policy development in support of embodied carbon reporting; requirements for new construction; circular economy programs; and waste diversion projects. The position will manage consultants, establish and manage project teams, develop and manage budgets, and potentially secure grants (if applicable).

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working on climate action for a local government. The position will work collaboratively with a wide range of fantastic internal and external stakeholders, providing analysis, technical expertise, advice and guidance to senior staff, municipal departments, community groups and the public. You would be joining an incredible, passionate and highly successful sustainability team with access to strong, well-established regional, provincial and national networks.
