Description
Strathcona County is currently building a new Agricultural Event Centre named “The Pointe”. While this facility was primarily designed to accommodate agricultural events (horse/cattle/dog shows, etc.), it can also host all types of events (trade shows, markets, concerts, etc).

The Pointe Operations Team Lead will be vital in delivering exceptional service to guests and ensuring top-notch facility maintenance. This role encompasses overseeing footing conditions, managing equipment, coordinating event setup and takedown, and maintaining biosecurity standards. Beyond performing manual labor and safely operating heavy equipment, the Team Lead also plays a pivotal role in mentoring part-time operators and facility attendants, fostering a supportive and skilled team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Lead contact for event hosts and primary contact for user groups, providing a seamless and positive experience for clients 
  • Conduct daily activities in a leadership role, assisting peers with completion of operational tasks 
  • Prepare footing and facility setups per event specification and programming needs 
  • Respond to unpredictable and challenging situations including human first aid, animal emergencies, guest service issues, and building emergencies 
  • Safely operate all heavy equipment (Large tractor with grooming implements, skid steers, boom lifts, etc.) 
  • Model safe and effective operations practices, conduct staff training and mentor hourly staff 
  • Take charge of large-scale, intricate operational tasks, including barn cleanouts and event setups and takedowns, demonstrating effective leadership
  • Interact and build relationships with guests, contractors, event hosts and facility staff
  • Act as the first line of support to The Pointe’s Leadership Team by attending meetings and planning strategies for upcoming events 
  • Understand the functionality of building management system’s environmental controls and coordinate with Fleet and Facility Management department as required
  • Apply knowledge and train staff in the OHS Act, Regulations and other safety guidelines 
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school Diploma plus 4 years of related experience
  • Post secondary education is considered an asset 
  • Equine, cattle or agricultural experience is considered an asset 
  • Animal first-aid is an asset
  • Experience mentoring and leading in a team environment
  • Comprehensive understanding of various events and how to adjust footing accordingly 
  • Excellent judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Strength in multi-tasking, delegating, and prioritizing effectively 
  • Exceptional customer service 
  • Strong commitment to safety and effective communication 
  • Skilled operation of heavy equipment in tight spaces 

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties (moderate to heavy lifting, bending, shovelling etc.)
  • Ability to work nights, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays
  • Ability to work with exposure to large animals (horse, cattle, etc)
Salary & Benefits

Pay Range: $31.69 - $39.61
