What we can offer you
In this position you will be part of a team responsible for the secure and efficient operation of the organization’s networks, servers, storage, telecommunications equipment, and cloud services. You will be focused on the roll-out of the District’s new Aruba Network, replacing Cisco devices across the organization.
What you’ll be doing
As part of the IT Infrastructure team, reporting to the Manager – IT and Cybersecurity, you will:
- Work closely with the Network Administrator to configure and deploy Aruba gateways, switches, and access points across the network displacing a current Cisco environment
- As part of the Aruba deployment, move the network to a new subnet addressing scheme.
- Work offset hours as required to minimize downtime caused by network replacement.
- Perform a variety of network administration tasks related to routers and switches, access points, VPNs, and network security
- Act as the first line of escalation for the Service Desk for issues related to networks.
- Exercise independent judgment and take actions within established guidelines, deciding when to escalate more complex tasks and problems to senior technical specialists or the vendor.
- Monitor systems and networks for alerts, taking actions to resolve or escalate as appropriate.
- Perform daily maintenance tasks to ensure reliable and efficient operation of systems and networks.
Qualifications
What you’ll need to succeed
- A passion for seeking out, and enacting, improvements to IT systems and processes.
- 3-5 years progressive technical experience.
- A two year diploma in Computer Science or related discipline, supplemented by Aruba, Cisco or other certifications.
- Intermediate or better proficiency in:
- Configuration of Aruba gateways, switches and access points
- Programming and managing Cisco switches, routers, wireless access controllers/points
- IOS and NXOS; BGP and EIGRP
- DNS and DHCP administration
- VPNs (AnyConnect, Global Protect, DMVPN)
- Aruba ClearPass, Cisco ISE, and TrustSec
- Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the identification and resolution of hardware and software issues, including operating systems and communication problems on networked computers.
- A firm understanding of secure IT operations and the governance, policies, and tools required to maintain secure IT systems.
- Ability to monitor the efficiency, effectiveness, and security of the District's network and to implement remedial actions as required.
- Knowledge of local and wide area networks, server and workstation operating systems, hardware platforms, network protocols and related topologies.
- Superior communication skills, with strength in describing technical issues to a variety of end users, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure effective systems operations.
- Excellent documentation skills.
- Work independently and establish work priorities
- A valid B.C. Driver’s Licence is required.
It’s great if you have
- Intermediate or better proficiency in;
- Fibre Optic Infrastructure (i.e. in-ground fibre cabling)
- VoIP (MS Teams, or similar)
- Working knowledge of;
- Microsoft Azure IaaS administration
- VMware vSphere
- Linux Server Administration
- Understanding of data centre operations (power, UPS, cooling, etc)
- Experience working in large multi-disciplined organizations
- Experience working in an ITIL environment

Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $44.22 to $52.21 per hour (2024 rates)
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
Remote Work: This position is not eligible for remote work.
