Parkland County has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Development Planner II position in the Planning & Development Services Department. Reporting to the Senior Planner, Development Planning, the Development Planner II is responsible for managing complex development applications and ensuring compliance with land use regulations. This includes interpreting and applying the Municipal Government Act, Parkland County’s Land Use Bylaw, and related policies for effective service delivery of industrial, commercial, and residential development activities. This position leads pre-application meetings, provides expert guidance on bylaw interpretation to the planning team, and facilitate the development review process, including intake and assessment. This role will represent Parkland County by providing informed feedback on bylaw amendments, advise key players, resolves complex planning issues, and delivers technical customer service regarding land use and development permit processes. This position acts as the Development Authority for major development applications and actively contributes to ongoing process improvements

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners and Registered Professional Planner designation in the Alberta Professional Planners Institute is desired.
  • Knowledge of the application of Provincial and Municipal planning policies, legislation, processes, procedures, and Statutory Planning documents in the Alberta context.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound and valid decisions on the development proposals and permitting processes and issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple permit applications and other assigned tasks effectively within the development review framework.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations and streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service.
  • Possess and exhibit strong skills in presentations to Council, community associations and government departments as required.
  • Ability to make well-reasoned and effective decisions by applying logical judgement and creative problem-solving skills through information gathering. 
  • Possession of a valid class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
Salary & Benefits

The total rewards package for this position includes:

A starting annual salary of $90,500 to $97,900, with a maximum earning potential for this pay range of $114,500, based on a 35-hour work week and option to join the Earned Day Off Program.
