As the Supervisor, Communications & Marketing, you’ll provide day-to-day leadership to a talented team of communications and marketing professionals, helping to deliver clear, consistent and strategic communications across the County. You'll contribute to high-impact initiatives, support Council communications, strengthen public engagement practices and ensure the County’s reputation is protected and enhanced through proactive, professional communications.

Primary duties will include:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and coordination of the Communications & Marketing staff, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities.
  • Lead the development and execution of strategic communications for complex, high-impact and sensitive projects.
  • Manage emerging issues and lead crisis communications planning and response.
  • Manage the 24/7 on-call communications process and serve as an Information Officer.
  • Support advocacy and intergovernmental relations strategies that advance Council’s strategic priorities.
  • Provide strategic communications support and advice to County Council, including messaging, speechwriting, briefing materials and counsel on communications and marketing approaches.
  • Lead the governance, planning and delivery of public engagement initiatives, reinforcing the use of established standards and practices.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate communications campaigns for internal and external audiences across a variety of channels.
  • Oversee brand governance, visual identity standards and the County’s communications tools and operational systems.
  • Collaborate with departments to align communications strategies with operational goals and support cross-organizational initiatives.
  • Mentor and coach staff, promoting professional development, continuous learning and a positive, high-performing team culture.
  • Monitor public sentiment and media coverage, providing strategic advice to anticipate risks and maintain public trust.
  • Support the continuous improvement of communications processes, tools and workflows.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player with great attention to detail. You will also possess:

  • Post-secondary degree in communications or public relations, plus seven years of progressively more complex experience in communications, public relations or public participation. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Two years of proven supervisory experience is required.
  • Information Officer training is considered an asset.
  • Accreditation with the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is considered an asset.
  • IAP2 Foundations in Public Participation is considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing strategic communications plans.
  • Experience in a municipal government environment is considered an asset.

Salary & Benefits

What We Offer: This is a full-time permanent position. The County of Grande Prairie provides a competitive compensation package, including pension, benefits, and vacation. We actively support professional development opportunities and foster an engaging work environment.

Work Schedule: This position works 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. Occasional weekends and overtime work may be required during busy season and emergencies.

Hourly Pay: $58.96 to $69.36 an hour.
