Description
The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced Engineering Technologist to join our team and we want you to apply. As an Eng. Tech. IV you will be involved in a wide variety of projects and initiatives to improve road safety and encourage active transportation for Saanich residents. You are familiar with Vision Zero and have experience recommending road safety improvements to reduce conflicts and improve crash outcomes for vulnerable users. You are intimately familiar with TAC and the MUTCDC, BC Active Transportation Design Guide, and guidance provided by other organizations such as the CROW manual and NACTO.

You will be responsible for assisting our electricians to maintain asset management records and develop signal timing plans for 88 traffic signals and managing more than 8000 streetlights. Experience in developing traffic simulations, signal timing plans, and street lighting models is an asset. Your experience will have prepared you to investigate and respond to a wide variety of concerns from the travelling public and you treat each one with respect and courtesy. Your background also includes providing encouragement and occasional guidance to junior staff to assist their learning and professional development.

As Saanich grows, we need your help to ensure proposed housing developments are aligned with our Active Transportation and Road Safety Action plans. Your role will review development applications, including parking and traffic impact assessments, to ensure appropriate infrastructure is delivered alongside new developments, and you will draft technical memos recommending any modifications consistent with legislation and planning documents.

Requirements

Requirements of the position include a two year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution, a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience, and eligibility for registration as an AScT with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC. You also need to have a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License. Your computer skills are strong and up to date, with experience in AutoCAD, Excel, Synchro and ArcGIS Pro. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, such as a university degree in a relevant field of engineering with a minimum of 3 years work experience.

Our regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week). A 5-5-4 compressed work schedule is available to give every 3rd Monday or Friday off upon completion of a probationary period. Salary & Benefits
