The Inspection Services Division is seeking an experienced Building / Plumbing Official to perform skilled office and field inspection work reviewing all types of buildings; administering the BC Building Code and enforcing municipal bylaws. The Building / Plumbing Official is responsible for plan and document examination and Building Permit processing for the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, B.C. Plumbing Code, and municipal inspection and permitting processes.
Requirements for the Building / Plumbing Official I: BOABC Level I qualification and POABC Level I qualification are required; diploma from a technical college or university in engineering or architecture; three years of directly related experience with codes and standards in building design, preparation of construction documents and construction inspections, including plumbing systems, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
Requirements for the Building / Plumbing Official II: BOABC Level II certification and POABC Level I certification are mandatory; diploma from a technical college or university in engineering or architecture; six years of directly related experience with codes and standards in building design, preparation of construction documents and construction inspections, including plumbing systems, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions, Building / Plumbing Official 1 wage of $44.46 per hour and the Building / Plumbing Official 2 wage of $49.41 per hour, and an excellent benefits package.
