Clayton Community Arts is hiring Visual Arts Program Instructors to develop and instruct visual art classes. Our Visual Arts Program Instructors have the opportunity to teach Visual Art classes to preschool, children, youth and adult participants throughout the year, participate in hands-on outreach community activities across Surrey, as well as teach summer camps.

Responsibilities
Are you passionate about visual arts and enjoy teaching a variety of ages? Join the City of Surrey’s Culture division and contribute to the innovation and growth of our arts community through your development and instruction of visual art courses and camps. You will be responsible for the submission of detailed lesson plans and supply lists for each class, camp, or workshop, as well as for the set-up and clean-up of each class. You will be tasked with maintaining the safety of participants in the classes and upholding the high quality and professionalism of the City of Surrey. You will work directly with the Visual Arts Programmer, other art educators and instructors, volunteers, and staff.
Required skills include:
- Experience in art education and the fundamentals of art pedagogy.
- Ability to teach a variety of artistic mediums.
- Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
We’re looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in art and art education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with excellent interpersonal and strong classroom management skills. Our ideal candidate must be willing to travel across the city with materials.
The successful candidate must have:
- A degree/diploma in the area of visual arts, art education, or a related field or related experience.
- Previous teaching experience in art education as well as an understanding of child development particularly in the areas of artistic expression.
- A current Emergency First Aid with CPR certificate.

Hourly Rate: $25.00
