Clarington's Communications Team is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Digital Media Student to support our digital media efforts from May 19 to August 22, 2025. This position will report to the Marketing and Engagement Supervisor, working closely with the Digital Media Specialist and Web Specialist.
What you’ll be doing
As the Digital Media Student, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist with the migration of web content to a new corporate website.
- Collaborate with the Digital Media Specialist and Web Specialist on content development and management.
- Assist in writing and scheduling engaging social media content across various platforms.
- Capture and edit video and photos that align with Clarington’s brand and engage our various target audiences.
- Provide administrative support to the team in support of Clarington’s digital media program (e.g. track data and performance, sort and tag digital assets).
- Assist in maintaining Clarington’s websites and intranet, including updating pages, correcting broken links, creating friendly URLs and identifying stale content.
- Assist with the development of web forms and surveys.
- Proofread all content to ensure accuracy, grammar, style, plain language and consistent voice.
- Review and approve community events in the online events calendar.
- Assist in preparing online newsletters, including proofreading content and verifying links and accessibility.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring
The successful candidate will have:
- Current enrolment in a diploma or degree program in Marketing, Digital Media, Communications, Journalism or a related discipline. Candidates must currently be enrolled in or returning to full-time studies in a recognized post-secondary educational institution. Documentation that provides proof of current enrolment, as well as identifying your status in the program, must be submitted with your application. Failure to provide documentation will disqualify you from consideration.
- Experience with web content management systems.
- Familiarity with using various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X), including experience creating stories, reels and video content.
- Photography skills and demonstrated experience filming and editing short-form content.
- Creative mindset, up to date with industry trends and emerging digital media techniques to enhance Clarington’s social media strategies.
- Strong communications and copywriting skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience using Adobe Acrobat and knowledge of accessibility-related requirements (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) would be an asset.
- Experience in creating online newsletters in Mailchimp or similar software would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

- Salary: $20/hr
- Hours of work: 35 hours per week, with after-hour meetings required.

Prior to starting the position, the successful candidate must provide, at their own expense, a current (with the last 180 days) satisfactory criminal reference check, directly from a Canadian Police Information Centre. Criminal Records Checks from third party agencies are not acceptable. Applicants who have been employed with the Municipality within the last year and have provided a criminal reference check within the last 365 days are exempt from providing another criminal reference check.
