Key Responsibilities:
- Purchase and maintain the parts inventory to meet customer service delivery requirements for inspection, repair and maintenance of vehicles, equipment and transit buses ensuring inventory meets current needs and obsolete inventory is disposed of appropriately
- Evaluate parts inventory needs for both existing and new fleet vehicles to ensure a cost-effective inventory while maintaining readily available parts for maintenance
- Select vendors according to corporate policy and negotiate terms
- Maintain effective working relationships with the vendor community to ensure sources of supply are available to meet purchasing requirements
- Ensure integrity of the purchasing function by communicating the Department’s procurement needs to the broadest market possible and ensure all vendors are treated fairly
- Oversee scheduling and logistics to ensure items are available when required
- Oversee the Department's warehouses of parts and supplies
- Responsible for supervising up to 4 staff between the Transit and the Vehicle and Equipment maintenance shops to ensure excellent customer service which includes:
- Creating shift, on-call and holiday schedules to meet department obligations
- Reviewing staff performance and assisting with the recruitment process
- Forecast, organize and schedule vehicle and equipment parts and materials for annual Preventative Maintenance Inspection Programs in cooperation with user departments for optimal fleet availability
- Assist in the disposal of assets by working with technical specification writer, shop supervisors and auction houses
- Participate in monthly safety meetings to promote and carry out safety programs
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post secondary education as a Licensed Journeyperson Parts Technician with 5 years of related knowledge and experience managing inventory in a fleet maintenance and repair environment
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with fleet maintenance and inventory control systems
- Extensive knowledge and experience in fleet maintenance/repair, procurement, and inventory management best practices to ensure accurate, timely and efficient repair of the vehicle and equipment fleet
- Leadership skills to motivate, encourage and mentor staff in a challenging and dynamic work environment and an ability to work with unionized technical staff within a collective bargaining agreement
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Document Management System, Oracle and Asset Works FA Suite
- Knowledge of fleet maintenance software, work order processing and purchasing for fixed assets
- Excellent communication, organization and time management skills and ability to deal with multiple and changing priorities and to provide leadership to technical and administrative staff
- Ability to adapt and remain flexible in response to team growth, evolving priorities, and organizational changes, while maintaining a positive and solutions-focused mindset
- Ability to work independently and have the initiative to identify business opportunities and to develop and implement effective solutions
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
Salary Range: $88,150.40 - $110,177.60
