Are you an enthusiastic urban forestry professional looking to join our dynamic team that cares for Saanich’s trees and urban forest?

The Parks Division is seeking a permanent full time Urban Forestry Technician to coordinate, plan, and participate in tree planting and maintenance programs to support the Urban Forest Strategy. You will support urban forest enhancement initiatives and programs, develop and enhance tree planting programs in the community, undertake landscape improvement projects, and liaise with various internal and external staff and stakeholders on projects.  You will also support Engineering related projects by reviewing Engineering civil plans, Gas Permits and Boulevard Permits and provide comments on proposed activities as they relate to the Tree Protection Bylaw and the Urban Forest Strategy.

As the Urban Forestry Technician, you will perform technical work requiring skills and ability related to tree planting and small tree maintenance.  This includes delivery of private and public property tree replacement objectives related to development and overseeing the small tree maintenance program for successful establishment of District owned trees.

Requirements

As a qualified candidate, you have a two-year diploma in arboriculture or horticulture from a recognized post-secondary institution; three years progressive experience in the field of arboriculture or tree care, preferably in a municipal setting; current ISA Arborist Certificate; current ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualification Certificate; working knowledge of computers and standardized MS Office software packages and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. Candidates with an equivalent combination or education and experience may be considered.  The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $40.73 per hour with an excellent benefits package and generous pension plan.
