Description
Reporting to the Manager of Emergency Programs, the local FireSmart Educator is responsible for supporting residents and neighborhoods in planning and implementing FireSmart initiatives. The FireSmart Educator works with community members to proactively mitigate risks to their properties and structures, helping to prevent damage from wildfires. FireSmart activities are developed and carried out in alignment with provincial guidelines, FireSmart BC, and the priorities of the City of Prince George.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have completed Grade 12, along with FireSmart 101 and Wildfire Risk Reduction training courses. You must either possess the Local FireSmart Representative qualification or be willing to obtain it within 3 months of the start date. Experience with FireSmart and wildfire mitigation work is preferred. The candidate should have knowledge of fire prevention, FireSmart practices, emergency preparedness programs, public safety education, fire service operations, and emergency management. You have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license (or out-of-province equivalent).  A Police Information Check for offences related to the position is required. This is a term position and is expected to last approximately five months.
