Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor - Lift Stations or the Foreman - Lift Stations, the Pressurized Utility Operator is responsible for ensuring that the storm and sanitary lift stations are in continuous operation. Primary duties include:
- Follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to operate and maintain the Lift Stations. Support Foremen on the update of SOPs.
- Conduct routine inspections, troubleshoot and report identified issues to the area Foreman. Follow Foreman direction on how to fix issues identified.
- Inspect, test and troubleshoot the operation of generators, slide and backwater valves, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units and alarms at pumping stations.
- Perform maintenance and repair activities associated with all aspects of lift stations including building and grounds maintenance.
- Report hazardous conditions, near misses and safety incidents to the Foreman.
- Actively take part in monthly safety meetings bringing concerns and ideas to improve safety at the workplace.
- Use various software routinely as a tool to document operation and maintenance work (Waterfront, Maximo, incident spill report, etc.)
- Perform other duties including completion of reports and forms (i.e., recorder cards, inventory, truck reports, safety infractions, daily time sheets, etc.), informing Foreman about various matters (i.e., incident reports, daily work routine, etc.).
- Operation and maintenance of emergency pumping equipment.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (e.g. G.E.D) with at least 3 years of experience with Wastewater and/or Stormwater Utility experience.
- An Alberta Provincial Wastewater Collection Operator Level I Certificate and confined space certification is required.
- A valid class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- This position requires the ability and willingness to use desktop, software and/or remote devices.
- Success in this role requires excellent interpersonal and adaptability skills.
