Description
The City of Nanaimo is seeking 2 temporary full-time Water/Wastewater Systems Operators-In-Training. The Water/Wastewater Systems Operator-In-Training will be assigned duties in the department in the discipline in which they have received certification. Under the direction of the supervisor, the incumbent will develop the skills to carry out the installation, operation, and maintenance of Water Systems, Sanitary Sewer Systems, Storm Water Collection Systems, and all related appurtenances.

Requirements

Applicants must have valid and in good standing EOCP Operator in Training certification (Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection) or equivalent provincial certification with a provincial sharing certification reciprocity. A minimum 3 months’ experience in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure within a municipal system is required, and possession of a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement.

Salary & Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week.  The hourly wage is $33.03 increasing to $34.77 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rate). It is anticipated that this vacancy will be up to 7 months in duration.
