Description
The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time Fleet Maintenance Mechanic. Under the general direction of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor, the incumbent performs major overhauls, minor repairs, and welding to various equipment, repairs or overhauls engine and power train component parts, carries out road tests, performs preventative maintenance inspections, signs off work as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector, services the various vehicles and equipment, and writes repair orders and parts order requests.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, possession of a valid BC Trade Qualification or inter-provincial Heavy Duty, Commercial Transport or Automotive Mechanics, a minimum of 2 years’ related experience, and possession of a valid BC Provincial Commercial Vehicle Inspector's Certificate. Applicants must hold a valid BC Class 3 Driver’s Licence with air endorsement.

Salary & Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week.  The hourly wage is $45.00, increasing to $47.37 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rates). It is anticipated that this vacancy will be up to two years in duration. The hours of work for this position are between 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
