KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will:   

  • Oversee staff and contractors performing maintenance activities;   
  • Plan and organize daily schedules for: grass mowing and trimming schedules; athletic fields and turf maintenance programs; operate irrigation systems; litter control;   
  • Create and monitor pest and disease control, watering and fertilizing programs;   
  • Maintain roadways, sidewalks and pathways;   
  • Be responsible for providing assistance as a member of a crew involved in ongoing operational and /or construction activities;   
  • Operate departmental vehicles and equipment;   
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections in compliance with regulations and City policies;   
  • Participate in overtime, standby and shift work to maintain adequate levels of service;   
  • Receive and process permits for permitted activities for the Parks Dept  
  • Administer and oversee processing of admissions as required   
  • Hours of work will be 40 hours beginning Friday and ending Monday from mid-May to mid-October (compressed work week). Hours are subject to change seasonally.   
Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • High school graduate or equivalent;   
  • Courses in Operations Maintenance Activities and Customer Service training;   
  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience including supervision, in the operation and maintenance of various operational maintenance equipment such as cord trimmers, mowers, trucks, etc;   
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently;   
  • Demonstrated supervisory capabilities including motivation of staff;
  • Physically able to performing the bona fide duties of the job including heavy lifting up to 50 lbs;   
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license required or willing to obtain in 6 months of start date. As a condition of employment you will be required to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract;   
  • Sound knowledge of safety regulations, and good customer service skills; 
  • Availability to work shifts and participate in rotational standby for Winter Control, emergency response, and community or special events as may be required. 
  • Candidates must be available to work weekend shifts.

Salary & Benefits

$32.80 To $33.25 Hourly
