Come join our team for an exciting career in local government. Saanich Public Works is seeking one Utility Operator IV to join the Waterworks team. This position works on the potable water system, performing any combination of tasks pertinent to the installation and control of the operation of a water distribution system.  The Utility Operator IV understands and follows best management practices to maintain water quality; supervises and participates in the work of a crew carrying out installation, rehabilitation, repair, inspection and testing of water systems and will ensure the safety of work crews and the public by following all appropriate municipal and W.C.B safety regulations.

Requirements

Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; EOCP Level II Certification for Water Distribution; four years of pipefitting experience in water systems including experience in project management and two years of experience in a supervisory capacity directly related to maintenance and/or construction work, specific to the Water Section; supervisory skills training; spill response training (as required); proficiency in field based GIS software; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.  Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week) and must have versatility; manual dexterity; and sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to work in all weather conditions.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $44.46 per hour and an excellent benefits package. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
