JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Lead, Database Management, the Database Administrator is responsible for the availability, integrity, security and performance of corporate databases and data through effective planning, administration, and client support. In-depth participation in Datawarehousing, Business Intelligence and Master Data Management programs. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for upkeep of enterprise level Oracle and MSSQL server database stack by performing design, installations, configuration, and administration of multiple versions of each database platform.
  • Conduct database optimization by managing all aspects of Oracle and MSSQL database performance, installation, configuration, design, capacity planning, load-testing, and performance benchmarks.
  • Plan, execute, and monitor backup operations on all Oracle and MSSQL databases as well as all other data sets in a secured and reliable fashion. Perform backup and restore operations as per requirements.
  • Provide operational support to incident management (break/fix), change management, release management according to guidelines provided by ITIL framework.
  • Assist application support specialists and end-users in troubleshooting, diagnosis, and fixing of issues related to database environment and provide solution for issues and problems.
  • Manage non-SQL (Big Data) platform to maintain unstructured data sitting in conjunction with structured data.
  • Proactively monitor performance and ensure availability of database environment according to business continuity plan (BCP) and disaster recovery plan (DRP).
  • Provide technical advice, subject matter expertise, and guidance on the analysis, interpretation and evaluation of complex database features to constantly upgrade and enhance the database environment according to emerging database technologies.
  • Maintain database security by implementing the security policies, evaluating trends, anticipating security requirements, and applying security patches and fixes to database environment.
  • Upkeep and maintain a fully patched database environment by planning and scheduling patches periodically, evaluating patches, applying patches to test environment, assist in patch testing, and patching the production servers in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Automate repeated tasks and activities by designing and implementing processes through scripts, procedures, and packages.
  • Install, configure, and maintain MSSQL server features: SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS according to application requirements. 
  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle APEX environment to build complex in-house applications. Implement and manage Workspace, user accounts, ORDS, and PLSQL for optimal functioning of APEX applications.
  • Design, create, implement, modify, and maintain reporting and dashboard database structure in current reporting database platform and be able to adopt a new platform seamlessly by migrating database to the new platform.
  • Design and implement data-marts, data extraction, data transformation, data load processes, and procedures through ELT and/or ETL methodologies. Provide support on existing data structures, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide professional and technical expertise in design and operation of Datawarehouse (DWH), Master Data Management (MDM), and Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives by implementing database technologies, data governance, data quality, data extraction, data load, data consistency and accuracy, data security, and availability components and produce reports and dashboards for KPIs.
  • Provide database support to GIS team to manage and maintain spatial data under ESRI platform.
  • Work with vendors and third party service providers to maintain and upkeep of database environment.
  • Support team lead and management by contributing in the implementation of capital projects, non-capital projects, software and technology selection, creating life-cycle plans and roadmaps.
Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • A college diploma or degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in database administration and data/database related field of expertise.
  • Certification in database technology platforms such as Oracle and MSSQL DBA are required.
  • Excellent knowledge and working experience in Oracle Multi-tenant architecture and ETL/ELT platform.
  • At least 5 years of experience with programming languages: SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Java, Python.
  • Strong command of database and data management related tools: OEM, MSSQL MS, SQLDeveloper,Toad.
  • Excellent knowledge of database security, backup and recovery/restore, performance monitoring, disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • Experience managing database backup and recovery operations using third party appliance such as Commvault.
  • Experience in report and dashboard development using Crystal and SAP platforms. 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of database concepts, design, and administration.
  • Working knowledge of GIS data under ESRI platform.
  • Experience in working under virtualized environment and be able to handle all tasks and support using virtual and on-site support methods.
  • Experience in managing SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS.
  • Vendor management skills related to database and third party applications support.
  • Experience with cloud services (Oracle Cloud, Google, AWS, Microsoft Azure) an asset.
