Are you passionate about shaping a strong, consistent brand identity across an entire organization, while crafting policies and strategies that empower teams to communicate with purpose and clarity? Strathcona County is seeking a skilled Communications Policy and Brand Advisor to take the lead in shaping and overseeing a comprehensive brand and communications policy framework in a center-led structure.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for drafting key policies and guidelines, collaborating with various key audiences and working cross-functionally to ensure alignment with our corporate values, priorities and brand. This position will provide guidance, influence strategy and build a robust governance framework while creating training programs that empower the entire organization to further communicate with clarity and purpose. This role will also support with general communications strategy and implementation led by the Corporate Communications team.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop and implement communications policies, directives, guidelines and program material to ensure clarity, consistency, and legal compliance across all platforms
  • Lead the development and delivery of communication policy and brand training programs 
  • Advise on legislation, best practices and emerging trends from a communications lens, to keep policies up-to-date and effective reputation and brand management
  • Draft issue briefs, presentations and related documentation for senior leadership/executive/council decision making
  • Provide guidance and direction to departmental communications teams regarding the application of the overall corporate strategic direction, communications policies, brand, guidelines and practices
  • Serve as the primary advocate and leader for communications-driven communities of practice (CoPs) across the organization, facilitate regular meetings, workshops, and events to promote networking and collaboration
  • Lead ongoing evaluation of the communications policy framework, monitor the impact and effectiveness of communications policies and guidelines through feedback mechanisms and performance metrics 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans and briefs, including post-campaign analysis
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma or Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, with 5 to 7 years of experience in a communications role
  • Membership in a communications professional association is an asset (IABC, CPRS)
  • Experience with policy development and implementation
  • Strong understanding of communication principles, ethics, and legal standards
  • Proven ability to draft clear and effective policies and guidelines
  • Excellent collaboration and coordination skills, with experience working across multiple departments
  • Proven experience leading brand application and alignment
  • Ability to assess multiple, possibly competing, priorities, and develop an approach that makes best use of the available resource for maximum impact
  • A sound understanding of the role of communication principles and practice within an organization 
  • The ability to understand and analyze complex issues and identify communication approaches to address them
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills - listening, speaking, problem-solving, discretion and tact
Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $92,346.80 - $115,479.00
