Reporting to the Solid Waste Operations Manager, the Landfill Gas Technician assists in the overall maintenance requirements of a Landfill gas well collection system. The incumbent will maintain, monitor, adjust and repair a landfill gas well collection system.
Job Duties:
The successful candidate will:
- Be an active participant in Aquatera’s Health and Safety program
- Be responsible for repairing, maintaining, coordinating, planning, and overseeing the operations of the landfill gas collection system
- Monitor sample points and record data electronically
- Use Aquatera’s Asset Software as a part of routine operations
- Repair and/or maintain gas collection components, pumps, and associated equipment as required
- Conduct sampling as required for reporting purposes
- Maintain daily logs of LFG system and other related work
- Visually inspect and listen to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or replacement
- Perform regular field adjustments of wells to maximize LFG flow
- Open and close valves as required for proper system operation and mechanical isolation
- Diagnose cause of mechanical malfunctions or failures of operational equipment and repair accordingly
- Have the ability to read and understand technical manuals and system piping and instrumentation diagrams
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance in accordance with technical manual procedures
- Assist in maintaining proper site inventory volume to support landfill gas systems
- Assist in defining, ordering and procuring all required parts
- Assist in the coordination and scheduling of subcontractors and suppliers for gas well-field issues as required
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal and environmental approvals and regulations
- Assist in the development of the required O & M preventative maintenance procedures related to the landfill gas system
- Work overtime as necessary
- Assist the Supervisor in training of Solid Waste Operators in basic landfill gas collection system operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada and
- Have 3+ years’ experience in Landfill gas well collection system operations and maintenance; relevant and/or transferable experience and/or education may be considered
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Have training in Landfill Gas (advanced training would be an asset)
- Any trade related certification would be an asset
- Have demonstrated skills – knowledge of maintenance tools and familiarity with repair material required
- Possess a high level of environmental, health and safety mindset
- Perform duties professionally and safely
- Possess effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
- Have strong organizational skills
- Have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Have basic computer skills is an asset.
- Have strong mechanical aptitude
- Have the ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Will exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Decisions are made based on formal procedures, calculations, deductive reasoning, and consultation with managers and or supervisor
- Have a valid Canadian Driver’s license, minimum class 5

Working Conditions:
The tasks of this position require walking and ascending in various environmental conditions.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required:
- Provision if a copy of a valid Canadian Driver’s license (Class 5 minimum)
- Provision of a driver’s abstract satisfactory to the employer
- Successful completion of a 50 lb. pre-employment fitness test
- Satisfactory completion of a comprehensive drug and alcohol test
