Overview
The Supervisor – Design Services performs engineering work related to the planning of municipal infrastructure works within the City.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing engineering design drawings and reports for municipal infrastructure as well as private utilities.
- Leading, supervising, reviewing and providing direction to technical staff responsible for engineering infrastructure planning with respect to their work plans, projects, daily duties and responsibilities.
- Coordination of work performed by the staff team to ensure timely implementation and completion.
- Developing policies and staff procedures.
- Preparing technical memorandums and reports to staff, committees and Council.
- Representing the City at internal and external meetings, on various committees with internal and external agencies as well as at public open houses.
- Providing engineering support and expertise to City staff and customers.
- Developing capital works projects.
- Developing, negotiating, and administering procedures, policies, Bylaws and agreements.
- Performing and assisting with engineering designs & drafting and with various Engineering related projects.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of municipal Bylaws and processes.
- Knowledge of Master Municipal Contract Documents/Specifications and City standards.
- Knowledge and experience applying engineering design principles, construction methods and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, reports, plans, specifications and other requirements.
- Ability to develop, negotiate, and administer procedures, policies, Bylaws and agreements.
- Ability to prepare technical reports and memorandums.
- Skilled in project management.
- Skilled in customer service initiatives, innovation, and team building.
- Ability to effectively supervise, advise, and review the work of staff.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written form with City Council, the public and staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy in communicating with others.
- Ability to supervise, train, and mentor others in the work.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Knowledge and experience with some of ESRI’s products would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of computer assisted analysis for master infrastructure planning would be beneficial.
Working Conditions:
Duties are performed in an office environment with some site visits required. Job requires periods of continuous sitting while focusing on reading reports, plans and other documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by graduation with a diploma from a recognized institute of technology in Civil Engineering with at minimum, eligibility for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC. Five (5) years' experience, including supervisory experience, in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in municipal or consulting civil engineering is preferred.
Salary Range:$49.31 - $58.29 per hour
