Description
The Licensed Mechanic will be responsible for performing semi-skilled, and skilled mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on all City owned vehicles and equipment including but not limited to cars, buses, dump trucks, loaders, graders, snow clearing equipment, and small engines. This individual will operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric and air-driven tools to diagnose, repair and service vehicles and mechanical equipment. The Licensed Mechanic will also inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work. The individual will perform inspections and safety checks along with ensuring that health and safety regulations are met. The Licensed Mechanic will provide emergency field assistance to disabled vehicles and equipment as needed and appropriate in all weather conditions. Self-motivated and able to work independently, the Licensed Mechanic will ensure work assignments are completed in a timely manner. May be required to provide training to other staff.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Must possess current Ontario Government Certificate of Qualifications – Truck and Coach Technician (310T)
  • A preferred asset would be a current Ontario Government Certificate of Qualifications Automotive Service Technician (310S)
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and must be able to travel to different work locations to perform mechanical duties, as assigned. Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must provide own mechanics tools up to and including ½” drive sockets and wrenches to 1 ¼” sizings.
  • Minimum three (3) years progressive experience of diesel engines including transmissions, differentials, electrical, hydraulics, air brake systems, welding/fabricating. Experience in automotive mechanics would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of CVOR requirements and regulations is required.
  • Knowledge of small engines and generator repairs would be an asset.
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications such Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills with a proven focus on service delivery.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.

Successful candidates will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract deemed satisfactory to the employer.

Salary & Benefits

Salary:  $34.06/hour

Benefits:  In accordance with Collective Agreement. Includes Health and Dental benefits, long-term disability, boot/tool allowance, employer-matched defned benefit pension plan, 14 days of paid holidays in addition to vacation.

Hours of Work:  Monday – Friday. Must be available for call-ins and overtime.
