This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position for 9 months

The Department Training Coordinator works position within Recreation, Parks and Culture and is critical to develop, maintain and track training requirements to support OHS legislation, industry best practices and establishing planned training systems for department employees. This position provides assistance, advice and coaching to supervisors within the department on training management tracking and matrices for roles within the department, programs, policies and procedures to ensure requirements are being met.

In addition, this position will train staff as required for positions and work with supervisors. This position will constantly re-assess training needs through feedback and discussions with functional areas and take a cross-functional perspective to ensure the overarching department needs are being met. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with OHS Supervisor, Leadership Group and supervisors to identify required, role specific training
  • Develop and build role specific training profiles that meet corporate and site requirements 
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee a training matrix across branches for each work team and track individual employee training while supporting department work teams to ensure mandatory training is met and training records are maintained as required
  • Work with supervisors and existing training committees to align resources into a shared format, identify cost savings and build consistency between branches, facilities and work groups
  • Ensure that each department branch, facility and work groups have the trained staff required for identified competencies. 
  • Coordinate, implement elements of the department’s training and emergency preparedness system including; support for supervisor orientation and training, emergency response planning, competency and training programs
  • Identify, plan and schedule select training for the upcoming year
  • Provide advice, support and assistance to staff teams to allow for continuous improvement and maintenance of these key resources
  • Maintains manual and electronic training and emergency preparedness documents, files and records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing an update to date reference and audit trail. 
  • Provide advice to supervisors regarding the best training methods, activities, and tools to utilize to meet the needs. 
  • Identify new or changing needs based on user support trends or issues, stakeholder feedback, etc. 
  • Coordinate training and OHS activities on behalf of the department that are broad-based and department wide, such as first aid training, hearing tests and fit testing. 
  • Schedule training and testing for department staff teams to ensure compliance with government and county policies and established regulatory requirements.   
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • In depth knowledge of relevant government, industry OHS legislation, regulations and practises 
  • Knowledge of training as it pertains to Recreation, Parks and Culture staff
  • Able to deliver effective training while encouraging engagement of audience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to lead training sessions
  • Ability to work cooperatively with employees across the department to influence and support training programs
  • Diploma in a related field (i.e., OHS, recreation and culture services etc.) and minimum 5 years as a trainer/facilitator or business professional with experience developing and delivering training or an equivalent combination of education and experience in similar roles
  • Experience assessing training needs, developing training materials, and delivering training
  • Knowledge of instructional design theory, learning management systems, and web delivery tools would be an asset
  • Strong skills in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) are required. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to promote and foster good public relations

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time 
Salary & Benefits

Salary: $33.14 - $41.41 per hour
